Transform an ordinary spoon into a fun Halloween character! You could also make a ghost, bat, or mummy with the same idea.

The best part is that each wooden spoon can be given a unique personality. Pick from a pumpkin, witch, Frankenstein, or vampire design. With just a handful of craft supplies, old spoons can become entertaining Halloween characters in no time!
Supplies Needed
- Wooden Spoons – we used these wooden spoons.
- Small googly eyes
- Sharpie
- Acrylic Paint – we used orange, lime green, purple, black, and this color for the vampire’s face
- Felt – we used green, orange, white, and black
- Burlap Ribbon– a short piece of burlap ribbon was placed on the pumpkin spoon, although brown felt is another suitable option
- Glitter Foam Sheets – gold for the witch and red for the vampire
- Buttons – small purple and black buttons
- Hot glue – use hot glue to hold the hat and other decorations firmly in place. Adult supervision is required.

How to Make Halloween Wooden Spoons
Start by painting the wooden spoons:
- Paint the pumpkin spoon completely orange
- Use green on the witch’s top and black on the handle
- Paint Frankenstein’s top green and his handle purple
- Cover the vampire’s top with beige paint (or this color) and paint the lower section black

Here are the detailed instructions for creating all 4 wooden spoon characters:
Pumpkin:

1. Cut the eyes, nose, and mouth from black felt, and glue each piece onto the spoon.
2. Create a stem with brown felt or burlap ribbon, then glue it to the upper back of the spoon.
3. Cut a leaf from green felt and attach it beside the stem with glue.
Frankenstein:

1. Use black felt to cut the eyebrows and mouth, then fasten them to the spoon with glue.
2. Cut the hair from black felt and glue it across the top of the spoon. To create its rounded outline, trace around the spoon’s upper section and cut the bottom edge into zigzag points.

3. Position the googly eyes just above the eyebrows.
4. Glue 2 black buttons onto the handle.
Witch:

1. Cut a witch’s hat from black felt and glue it to the top of the spoon.
2. Make the hat brim with a narrow strip of gold glitter foam.

3. Create the hair by cutting orange felt into strips and gluing them down both sides of the spoon. Trim or angle the tops as needed so they sit smoothly under the hat.

4. Glue on 2 googly eyes, then use a black sharpie to draw the nose and mouth.
5. Glue 2 purple buttons onto the handle.
Vampire:

1. Cut the vampire’s hair from black felt and glue it across the top of the spoon. While cutting, create a pointed peak that extends toward the area where the eyes will be placed. Trace the rounded top of the spoon first, then shape the peak as you cut.
2. Cut a triangle from the red glitter foam sheet and secure it to the back of the spoon.
3. Cut a narrow triangle from white felt and glue it near the top of the handle.

4. Cut a bow from the red glitter foam and glue it on top of the white felt.

5. Glue on 2 googly eyes.

6. Draw the mouth with a black sharpie.
7. Add 2 small white felt triangles for the vampire’s teeth.
We hope you have fun making these Halloween spoon crafts! They’re perfect for story time, puppet play, or decorating a mason jar display.
