Have you ever experimented with salad spinner art? Children will adore watching the colorful designs and patterns created by the paint inside the salad spinner!

Star Salad Spinner Art

With your salad spinner artwork, you can cut out shapes—just as we did with these stars—or keep the pieces square and transform them into cards!

Create a banner from the artwork or turn the pieces into cards! Simply take some twine and thread the stars onto it to make a personalized banner.

We chose blue and red for a playful patriotic theme, but children can select whatever colors they prefer! We suggest picking two shades that blend well, such as red and yellow, which create orange, or blue and yellow, which produce green. Since some paint will combine as the spinner turns, an additional color will appear.

It would also look lovely as a table accent stretched across the front edge of the table.

Will the paint come off the salad spinner?

We worked with acrylic paint and cleaned the salad spinner afterward. Because the paint was still damp, it rinsed away easily. If that concerns you, washable tempera paint is another option. We suggest buying an inexpensive salad spinner specifically for crafting.

How to Make Salad Spinner Star Art

1. Cut cardstock into squares.

Make sure the squares match the dimensions of your salad spinner.

2. Place paint drops on the cardstock.

Choose two complementary colors because they will blend together to create a third shade. You may also include the secondary color alongside the two primary colors, such as red, blue, and purple.

Place additional drops in the middle, since spinning will carry them toward the outer edges of the salad spinner.

3. Spin!

Here comes the exciting part—rotate the salad spinner! Continue spinning until you like the appearance of your artwork.

Try both brief and extended spins as well to discover whether they alter the final look of the artwork.

4. Allow the artwork to dry.

5. Cut out the stars.

Keep the squares intact to make cards, or cut them into stars and other designs. Use the star template at the end of the post to create star shapes!

6. Punch holes in the stars.

To transform the stars into a banner, punch a hole near the top of each one and weave twine through them.

These are so enjoyable to create! They make an ideal Fourth of July craft or an entertaining process-art project for children!
