A few years ago, we made pumpkin jars, and they quickly became a favorite. That got us thinking—why not transform them into pumpkin slime jars? Adding bright, colorful slime to a mason jar creates such a cheerful craft! If felt projects aren’t really your thing, you can easily choose the ghost slime jar instead. We love keeping our ideas simple!
Halloween Slime – an Easy Slime Craft!
Here are the three Halloween slime jars we’ll guide you through making.
First up is our pumpkin slime jar – orange slime fills the jar, and black felt is used to form the face!
Next comes the Frankenstein slime jar – this character is unbelievably cute! It may be our favorite mason jar craft to date! (We also love these Trolls mason jars if you haven’t seen them yet).
Finally, the simplest choice is a classic ghost slime jar.
Here are the three slime colors we made, displayed separately so each shade is easy to see.
Now let’s go through the steps for making this Halloween slime!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Use the ingredients below for each color (make 1 batch of every shade if you plan to create all three slime jars)
For each batch:
- 6 ounces of Elmer’s glue– we used white (2 bottles) and glitter green and prepared the recipe three times. Note: we tested this recipe with Elmer’s glue. We don’t recommend substituting a different brand because its ingredients may vary, which could affect the final texture (Dollar store glue, in particular, is often reported to cause problems).
- Orange food coloring for the pumpkin slime jar *Note: food coloring may stain, so cover your table with wax paper while playing and keep the slime away from surfaces or belongings you want to protect.
- 1/2 teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 1½ tablespoons of Contact lens solution.**Important:the contact lens solution must contain boric acid in its ingredient list. Boric acid reacts with the glue and is what helps form the slime.
- Water – for a more elastic slime, stir 2 TBSP of water into the glue before mixing in the baking soda

How to Make Halloween Slime
1. Select a bowl large enough to mix all of the slime ingredients.
2. Pour 6 oz of Elmer’s glue into the bowl. Use white glue for both the ghost and pumpkin slime.
3. For Frankenstein slime, pour in the green glitter glue. You can also use white glue colored with green food coloring. If you’re making a larger batch, save money by choosing the large gallon size.
4. Mix in orange food coloring to make orange glue for the pumpkin slime.*Note: food dye may stain surfaces, so protect your table with wax paper during play and keep it away from anything you do not want to discolor.
5. Sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and stir until thoroughly combined. Add 2 TBSP of water, then mix again.
6. Pour in the contact lens solution next. An adult should handle this step. Remember that the solution needs to contain boric acid for the slime to form. Start by adding half of the listed quantity and stir well. If the slime has not thickened enough, add the rest. If it is still very sticky, mix in a small additional amount.
7. Keep stirring as the mixture combines and begins to become firmer. Knead the slime by hand for several minutes. It often takes more kneading than expected before the texture fully develops. If it does not feel right, continue working it. For slime that is still too sticky, add a little more contact lens solution.
8. Finish the mason jars by adding their facial features! We used googly eyes for the ghost slime jar. Black felt shaped into pumpkin faces decorated the pumpkin jars, while the Frankenstein jars featured black felt details and googly eyes. Adults can attach the decorations with hot glue, or glue dots can be used for the googly eyes.

The fun can begin! Give these decorated jars as gifts or let children enjoy creating with their Halloween slime. They make a great addition to a Halloween party, too. After playtime, screw the lids on tightly so the slime stays safely stored.
- Choose a bowl large enough to hold and mix all of the slime ingredients.
- Measure 6 oz of Elmer’s glue into the bowl. Use white glue for the ghost and pumpkin versions.
- For the Frankenstein slime, select green glitter glue.
- Blend in orange food coloring to prepare the orange glue used for pumpkin slime.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and combine it well. For a stretchier consistency, you may also mix in as much as 1/4 cup of water.
- Add the contact lens solution. It must contain boric acid or the slime will not form. Begin with half the amount called for in the recipe and stir. Slowly add the remaining solution as needed. If the mixture is still sticky, add a little more, but do not use too much because it may make the slime overly firm.
- Continue stirring until the slime gathers together and begins to thicken. Allow plenty of time for kneading, since the slime may need more working than anticipated. Keep kneading if the texture is not quite right. If it remains sticky, add a small amount of contact lens solution.
- Give the mason jars their Halloween faces! Add googly eyes to the ghost slime jar. Cut pumpkin features from black felt for the pumpkin jars, then decorate the Frankenstein jars with black felt and googly eyes.
