Halloween Handprint Printables

Kids of all ages can have fun with these printable crafts. Paint, make the hand or footprint, and add the final decorative touches!

Making treasured Halloween artwork couldn’t be easier! These cute keepsakes are perfect for baby books, children’s memory boxes, thoughtful presents for family members, or seasonal décor in a frame.

How to Create these Halloween Handprint Printables

1. Set up your painting station.

• Choose the Halloween pictures you’d like to make and print them on white paper or cardstock.
• Gather your paint colors—we chose orange, green, black, and purple.
• Fill a large bowl or dish with warm, soapy water and keep it beside your work area. Have clean rags, towels, baby wipes, and paper towels nearby as well. They’re especially useful for quick cleanup during the footprint projects.
• For the footprint designs, place a small stool or child-sized chair close to the painting area.

2. Make the handprint designs.

Cover your child’s palm with a layer of non-toxic tempera paint.

Guide their hand onto the paper and line it up with the printed design before pressing down.

Carefully help your child lift their hand away from the page. If the project uses just one handprint, wash off the paint with warm, soapy water.

For artwork that needs 2 handprints, repaint the hand and press it onto the paper a second time. Set each completed page aside until it is fully dry.

3. Create the footprint designs.

Arrange everything before beginning. An easy approach is to have your child sit on a low stool while the blank design rests on the floor, giving you convenient access to the bottom of their foot. Paint the sole with non-toxic tempera paint, then help them carefully press it onto the page.

The bat design needs just one footprint, whereas the “trick or treat” picture uses both feet. Once finished, wash your child’s feet in the warm, soapy water and leave the artwork out to dry.

4. Finish with the facial features.

Once the handprints and footprints have completely dried, you can bring each character to life with its final facial details!

For the witch, glue on 2 googly eyes, then use a black marker to draw the nose, mouth, and hair. Add pink cheeks with paint by dipping the end of a paintbrush or pencil into the color and lightly tapping it onto the face.

For the bat, sketch the eyes and mouth with a black marker. A white paint marker is ideal for drawing its small fangs, though regular white paint will work too.

Paint the bat’s pointed ears above the footprint with a brush and the same purple paint.

For the spider, secure 2 googly eyes with glue, then draw a tiny fanged smile using a white paint marker. Finish with rosy cheeks by dabbing pink paint onto the face with the end of a paintbrush or pencil.

Your Halloween handprint and footprint creations are now complete! Be sure to write your child’s name and the date on the reverse side.
